Oggy and the Cockroaches | Top 10 “Oggy and the Cockroaches” Facts

Oggy and the Cockroaches

Oggy and the Cockroaches (French: Oggy et les Cafards) is a French comedy-adventure animated television series created by Jean-Yves Raimbaud, co-creator of Space Goofs, who died during the production of Oggy's first season. It is largely based on the American animated series Tom and Jerry created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The programme utilises silent humour, with characters either not speaking or using incomprehensible vocalisations and gestures. The show debuted on France 3 in September 1998 and then extended abroad.

In September 2020, a relaunch series named Oggy and the Cockroaches: Next Generation was announced, in which Oggy looks after Piya, a seven-year-old female elephant from India. It was published on Netflix globally on July 28, 2022, with 13 episodes totaling 6 parts. Although the aesthetics and tone change significantly from the original, Gulli refers to it as Oggy's eighth season.

Characters
Some of the characters appear in Xilam's other series, including Zig & Sharko and The Daltons, as well as the film Go West! An Adventure with Lucky Luke. The eponymous figures first appear on the aliens' screen in the Space Goofs episode "Venus Junior." "Space Sailors" contains a humour in the second season when the cockroaches ride atop Etno in the aliens' flooded mansion. Oggy, the cockroaches, and Jack appear as illustrations in "Doodle," but with a different coloured Jack, and again in "The Alien Show."

Main
Oggy is a light blue cat with green eyes, a red nose, a grey stomach, and white feet. When he isn't hunting cockroaches, Oggy normally spends his time watching TV or doing housekeeping. Despite the cockroaches' incessant mayhem, Oggy has established a love-hate connection with them after living with them for a long time. When he is alone in his house, he begins to miss the cockroaches and their antics (as seen in the episodes "Priceless Roaches" and "So Lonely"/"Alone at Last"), which is followed by nothing noteworthy occurring in his life.

Oggy was named after punk rock artist Iggy Pop and the rock album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, according to executive producer Marc du Pontavice and France Info.Oggy, like his Tom and Jerry counterpart, was the series' principal punching bag in the early episodes. He also has a phobia of heights, as seen in "The Rise & Fall"/"Vertigo" - but only on Jack's building site.
The Cockroaches are a group of three cockroaches named Dee Dee, Marky, and Joey (named after members of the music band The Ramones), who like playing jokes on other characters like Oggy and Jack.

Top 10 “Oggy and the Cockroaches” Facts

1. AN EPISODE WAS BANNED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS.

The 12th episode of Season 2, "That's the Last Straw!" is about the cockroaches' attempt to fool Oggy into thinking an asteroid was heading for Earth. We have no idea why this episode was prohibited. Do you have any suggestions?

2. OGGY HAS FIVE DISTINCT PHOBIAS

The term "scaredy-cat" was not coined for no purpose. Cats, in general, are easily startled. In several episodes of the programme, Oggy has shown dread of five things: water, rats and mice, needles, heights, and flying. Are you a worisome person?

3. THEIR NAME WAS AFTER A PUNK ROCK MUSICIAN.

Iggy Pop has been named the "Godfather of Punk" by the general population. And it was because of this legendary artist that the designers decided to call the main character of this cartoon series "Oggy."

4. OGGY AND THE COCKROACHES WERE INSPIRED BY TOM AND JERRY

Marc du Pontavice discussed the successful series' creation in an essay published on the AnimationXpress website. He remarked something fascinating regarding the thoughts he had when developing the characters: ". I wanted to reintroduce nonverbal communication into fashion. I encouraged the inventor, Jean-Yves Raimbaud, to imagine Tom and Jerry in the year 2000." As a result, they decided to switch Jerry, the mouse, with cockroaches.

5. HYPNOSIS PROHIBITED AN EPISODE

Hip Hip Hip Hypnoses is Season 2's 17th episode. In this episode, Marky learns about hypnosis after discovering a book on the subject. He then applies all he's learned to Oggy. And if you saw the programme, you'd see that the tricks worked. However, if you are from Morocco, you would be unaware of this incident because it was, in fact, prohibited.

6. IN THE GERMAN VERSION, WITTY POEMS HAVE BEEN DUBBED OVER THE ANIMATION.

The makers of Oggy and the Cockroaches Germany chose to be more inventive with the language of the characters. Eberhard Storeck, the legendary German dialogue editor, penned poetry on the screen action.

7. IN SOME VERSIONS, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JACK AND OGGY DIFFERS.

What we do know is that Jack is Oggy's neighbour. In other versions, he is depicted as his cousin. In the Hindi Dub, however, Jack is Oggy's older brother. Which do you believe Jack is?

8. IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES, AN EPISODE WAS BANNED

The Ghost-hunter is the season one's 55th episode. It's mostly about how Oggy became terrified after witnessing a gigantic monster movie from the 1940s. When the cockroaches saw how terrified Oggy was, they devised strategies to scare him even more. This episode was not shown in Muslim countries. However, for whatever reason, there are footage of the incident in Iran.

9. MARKY'S ANTENNAS ARE INCONSISTENT OVER THE ENTIRE SERIES.

Marky's antennas are generally described as chaotic, bent, and twisted. However, if you look closely, you may spot certain variations in his antennas over the series.

10. THE SHOW HAS BEEN DIALOGUED IN HINDI.

The show Oggy and the Cockroaches is a silent comedy. This implies that the characters do not talk and make no nonsensical gestures. The programme, however, has been dubbed in Hindi speech in its Indian version. Would you like your language to be dubbed into the animation as well?
